Kudlu Theertha is a waterfall hidden in the forests of the Western Ghats. It drops about 150 feet down a rocky cliff, and the trek to reach it is a big part of the fun. It is a good half-day outing from Agumbe.
Where is it?
The falls are about 20 km from Hebri and about 54 km from Udupi. The Agumbe Sunset Point is roughly 40 km away, so most visitors plan Kudlu Theertha as a separate trip. Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is nearby.
The trek
The trail is about 3 to 4 km one way and takes roughly one to one and a half hours over uneven ground. You walk through forest and cross small streams. The reward at the end is the full drop of the waterfall.
Best time to visit
June to November, during and after the monsoon, is when the water is at its best. The trail is slippery in heavy rain, so go after the rains have eased, and leave enough time to return in daylight.
Timings and entry
Visiting hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A small fee may be collected at the forest entry point. Do not start the trek late in the day.
Tips for your visit
- Wear sturdy shoes with grip.
- Carry drinking water, snacks, sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Do not swim during heavy rain, because currents can be strong.
- Keep the forest clean and take all litter back.
