Jogi Gundi Falls is one of the easiest waterfalls to reach near Agumbe. A short walk through the forest brings you to a waterfall that does not fall from a great height. Instead it comes out of a cave and runs through the hillside, ending in a natural pool.
What makes Jogi Gundi different
Most Western Ghats waterfalls are tall and dramatic. Jogi Gundi is quiet and intimate. The water flows out from the rock, which makes it a good spot to sit, take photographs and enjoy the forest sounds.
How to get there
- From the Agumbe–Sringeri highway, go about 100 metres and turn right.
- Follow the road for about 3 km, then turn right again.
- Vehicles cannot go further. Walk about 600 metres through the forest to the falls.
If you prefer to walk the whole way from the Agumbe bus stand, it is about 5 km.
Best time to visit
November to January is the best time. The water is steady, the forest is fresh after the rains, and the walk is comfortable.
Tips for your visit
- The walk is easy, but the forest floor is wet and slippery. Wear shoes with grip.
- There is no food on the route. Carry snacks and drinking water.
- The forest is deep and visitors can lose their way. Do not wander far from the path, and take a local guide if you want to explore.
- Check the pool before you swim and avoid it when the water is high.
- Take your litter back with you.
