Agumbe Sunset Point: Timing, Route and Tips for the Best View

Agumbe Guide

Agumbe Sunset Point is the most popular evening spot in Agumbe. It is a hilltop viewpoint high in the Western Ghats, with a wide view over the Sharavathi valley. On a clear evening you can watch the sun go down towards the Arabian Sea.

How far is it?

The viewpoint is about 1.5 km from the Agumbe bus stop on the Udupi–Agumbe road. You can walk up, or go by local auto or two-wheeler. On foot, allow roughly 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your pace.

Best time to visit

November to February gives the clearest skies and the best chance of a colourful sunset. In the monsoon, June to September, heavy rain and fog can hide the view completely. A foggy evening still has its own beauty, but do not count on a sunset.

When to arrive

Reach the viewpoint 30 to 45 minutes before sunset. This gives you time to find a good spot before the weekend and holiday crowd gathers. Stay a little after the sun goes down, when the sky changes colour.

What to carry

  • Comfortable shoes with a good grip
  • A light jacket, because the hilltop can be breezy
  • Drinking water
  • A torch or phone light for the walk back
  • Binoculars, if you have them

Good to know

  • There is no entry fee for the viewpoint.
  • Railings are in place at the viewing areas. Please stay behind them.
  • Mobile network is patchy here, so tell your group where you will meet.
  • Take your litter back with you.
